Optimist Club welcomes Alison Duff
Alison Duff of Research Center meets with Optimist Club
On February 12, Alison Duff of the Dairy Forage Research Center shared information with the Sauk Prairie Optimist Club. She covered such topics as sustainability of dairy farming, that animals can be carbon neutral, introduced Ron and Maureen Bula of Pleasant Valley Farm that uses regenerative agriculture, shared that 125 acres at the center are in managed pasture and 100 acres that are not actively managed, and that confined animals release tons of carbon. Some changes taking place at the center are a new Center Director that we oversee Madison, Prairie du Sac and Marshfield and a new facility is in the planning stage. The current center was built in 1980. The footprint of the old facility will be used in the new center which will take about five years to build. Duff also shared briefly four research projects taking place at the center.
The Sauk Prairie Optimist Club meets every Wednesday, the first Wednesday at noon at the Blue Spoon Café and the remaining Wednesdays at 7 a.m. at the Blue Spoon Café. Everyone Welcome!
